See the 20 sites we've shortlisted to focus our effort

On April 15th we hosted an online zoom meeting for our advisory, where we updated everyone on our progress to identify key opportunities. Our selection was informed by early conversations with First Nations, municipalities, advisory members, and years of experience working in this area. We selected these sites based on balance and diversity of ecological, cultural, political, and socio-economic factors as well as engineering timelines and feasibility.

Without further ado, here is the list of sites organized by project type:

1. Reconnection of historic sloughs and side channels cut off by dikes or causeways - 7 projects (Maria, Backwash/Ferry Island, Hope, Nelson, Cheam, Zaitscullachan, Deas) 2. Fish passage upgrades on sloughs with floodboxes – 4 projects (Ladner, Tilbury, West Sq’ewlets, Agassiz) 3. Fish passage upgrades associated with pump stations/floodboxeson tributary creeks –5 projects (Bon Accord, Maple, McLean, Yorkson, McLennan) 4. Changes to floodbox operational regime –1 project (Hatzic) 5. Secondary dike breach –1 project (East Sq’ewlets) 6. Setback dikes –2 projects (Pitt-Addington Marsh, SICA East)

Here are maps showing their respective locations:

To find out more about how we selected these sites, please check out our presentation on identifying project opportunities provided during our advisory meeting on April 15th, 2020. You can also check out our report from our April 15th meeting including other important project updates, notes on breakout discussions, slides, and a video recording of the meeting.

Please contact dan@resilientwaters.ca if you would like to discuss any of these sites, or others related to flood infrastructure and fish passage. We will be looking to connect and gather/share information with all interested parties about each individual site in the coming months.
